Since I was a small child, I have always loved music. I can remember the old record player I had as a kid, which I raised up on top of the wardrobe next to our bunk-beds. That way I could lie there, on the top bunk, and listen to all that fantastic 60's music, the speaker right next to my ear. I was captivated, and taken away to another world.
Well, that was a long time ago. I am in my mid-fifties now, and, as the great John Lennon put it ”my life has changed in oh so many ways". But some things never change, and one of those things, in my life, has been my love of music.
Strangely, I didn't start writing pop songs until I was in my thirties. Some things come to us late in life, and I can't really say how or why I started. I just knew I wanted to create something of my own and express myself. So, song writing was the perfect solution.
I like to keep my pop songs nice and simple....ditties, as Bob Kennedy calls them, and he's right, that's pretty much what they are, but they are written from the heart, and that's what counts.
So, song writing is my hobby and my passion, and I would like to share it with you all. I have 3 more new ones, which are in the pipeline, and I hope you are going to like them. The first one will be Un, Dos, Tres which has a nice easy South American Salsa feel to it. I love those Latin rhythms, they are so infectious, don't you think? Salsa music is becoming ever more popular these days and rightly so!
Well, I plan to go back to Cali, Colombia soon, to see my two godchildren Dailin and Angie. They live with their mum and other family members in an area called Siloe, which is a very poor indeed. Right now they are living together in a Sotano, which is a basement flat. Conditions are not good. It's cramped and damp, and I am worried about their health, so I want to help them get somewhere better to live, and teach them some English, which will help them in life, I hope.
By downloading one of my songs, you really will be helping me and by doing that you will be helping them, so, go on.....it's only a buck!!!
Of course, I dream of getting a publisher interested in my songs. That would be incredible. That way, I could raise enough money to buy them a family house of their own … and that really would be a dream come true. So, I hope you will enjoy listening to my calypsos and my Latin-influenced music.
Take care
David Bruce
